My Spring Break
My Spring break was just staying at home. I did go over to some friends houses and played basketball and just hung out. But I also had baseball practice and I have fun there. But otherwise I just stayed at home and layed around the house. I also watched T.V, played video games, and played on the computer. On the computer i watched youtube videos and played computer games. Also I had easter with my family and got lots of candy.

This spring break I had a volleyball tournament on Saturday in Springville. I spent most of the week with Carli. She spent the night at my house and we went on the trampoline, had an Easter egg hunt, played around downstairs, and we walked all the way to Wilkins when it was dark out. I spent the night at her house and we watched a really scary movie, we skyped poeple, talked on the phone, and i went to prom in the middle of the night. We watched " The Orphanage " and it was kind of hard to understand because it was all in a different language but it was still really creepy. On Saturday i went to my aunts and hungout with my cousins. We made a bonfire and grilled out. On Easter i went to my grandmas and saw my baby cousin for the first one thats only a couple months old. We had lunch and then we went home. I got home and had dinner with my dads side of the family and then colored eggs and went on a walk and then everybody went home.

Figurative Language
Remember the definitions that were outlined in class:
Simile: comparing two things using 'like' or 'as'
Metaphor: two items are compared and one noun is said to BE another noun (see more detailed definition below)
Personification: giving human qualities or body parts to something that is not human
Alliteration: repetition of the same letter at the beginning of several words
Idiom: use of words that differ from their actual meaning -- these are common phrases that you may have heard before (ex: "it's raining cats and dogs" means it's raining really hard).
The links below are some extra examples for you to consider as you become more comfortable with identifying figurative language and using figurative language in your own writing.
Metaphor: A metaphor is a figure of speech that says that one thing is another different thing. This allows us to use fewer words and forces the reader or listener to find the similarities.
The word metaphor comes from the Greek word metapherin (meaning "transfer").
The simplest form of metaphor is: "The [first thing] is a [second thing]."
Look at this example:
- Her home was a prison.
